4. Read the instructions given in the question carefully.

5. Do not get overwhelmed by the length of the passage and the words whose meaning the test taker may not know. The questions are probably very easy to find and answer.

6. Skimming and scanning are quick methods to understand the passage quickly. Skim is faster than scanning to get and overview of the passage. For in depth understanding, we scan the passage. This requires practice.

7. When you begin doing the reading passage, see how many passages are given in the exam. We need to complete all 40 questions in 60 minutes. If there are 3 passages, divide the time in 10 – 15 – 25 minutes. If there are four passages then split the time into 7 – 10 – 15 – 20. Rest of the time is to be used for writing answers

8. Note that the passages are graded from easy to difficult. The sooner you finish the initial ones, the more time the test taker will have for the tough questions.

9. Answer all the questions, even if some may be wrong, as there is no negative marking.

10. For True/False/ Not Given and Yes / No / Not Given questions, match the information given in the question to the information given in the passage. This may require one to know synonyms of words. In other words, ensure that the test takers vocabulary is up to the mark.

11. Ensure that in True/ False/ Not Given and Yes/No/Not Given, we use exactly the same terms. Interchanging Yes for True and vice versa means wrong answer. The same applies for False and No.

12. Do not match words given in the question with the words given in the passage. Match only meaning.

13. Whenever the questions are given before the passage, read those questions carefully and understand what kind of information the test taker needs to gather from the passage.

14. For matching heading with passage, ensure that while you read the passage, for each paragraph; write the central idea next to the paragraph.

15. While you are practicing reading questions, at this stage try and learn how to infer meaning of words whose meaning you may not know.

16. Create your own strategy at the learning stage. Each one of us has a style of thinking. Use your own ability to crack this test.

17. Write correct spelling while answering the question. Incorrect spelling implies wrong answer.

18. Follow the word limit while answering questions.

19. The questions are in the same order of the passage except in match headings with passage.
